Mining Community Resettlement
Monitoring and evaluation of resettlement engagement activities with project affected people for a mine in Limpopo Province. This encluded ensuring that stakeholders are identified and mapped, that they have an opportunity to receive information in a format that they understand, and that engagements are suited to vulnerable community members ensure their voices are heard and understood.
Training and Capacity Building for Social Perfomance Teams
Provision of training and capacity building for the Social Performance Teams for mining operations in Mpumalanga Province. This involved training on physical and economic resettlement, as well as grave relocations for mining affected communities. The objectives of the training were to assist the SP team to understand the social, economic and emotional consequences of resettlement and the complexities associated with that.
Social Impact Assessments
Various social impact assessment studies for projects in the North West Province, which included the predicting and investigating potential positive and negative impacts of the project, in consultaion with relevant interested and affected stakeholders, and analysing different project alternatives that would pose the least impact to people’s lioves and livelihoods, as well as maximum benefits for neigbouring communities.
Community Awareness Programmes on TSF Safety
Engagements with communities within the Tailings Storage Facility Areas of inundation (AoI) to raise awareness and ensure that communities have an understanding of the risks to them associated with tailings facilities, and how these are managed through the emergency preparedness measures that are in place. Engagements also included the establishment of Community emergency Response Teams who serve as first responders for the communities to enable safe evacuations during emergencies.
